Pericos de Puebla beat Diablos Rojos 13-5
In this occasion the Pericos de Puebla were the hot ones, crushing Diablos Rojos del México 13-5 in the first game of the Southern Zone Series held at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú.
The Puebla offense produced 21 hits, with Michael de la Cruz leading with five, plus two RBIs and one stolen base. Herlis Rodríguez followed with four hits, three RBIs, one home run and two produced.
Pericos opened the board early
The first to score were the Pericos with a simple two‑run drive by Luis Castro in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the same frame, the Reds matched with a double by Jon Singleton that drove in Carlos Sepúlveda, and later another double by Sepúlveda that sent Singleton home.
In the next inning, Puebla regained the lead with two more runs. In the third inning, one more run fell, giving them a three‑run advantage.
Nonetheless, Diablos Rojos are never to be underestimated, and with a two‑run home run by Franklin Barreto, the home team cut into the score.
Maderos de Puebla stayed hot
In the bottom of the fifth, Singleton hit a home run between right and center field to tie the game. However, at the start of the sixth, Pericos struck again with a three‑run rally.
In the eighth inning, the home team finished the game with five runs. In this way, they sealed one of the most annoying performances of Diablos Rojos in the season.
