Shooting After the Match
A clash between two criminal gangs in Irapuato's municipality left four dead and one injured, according to local authorities. The incident occurred on Wednesday night after a football tournament in Las Malvas, where attackers opened fire on players and spectators. Secretariat of City Security, Consuelo Cruz Galindo, indicated that the victims were caught in a crossfire, though the investigation has not yet confirmed this hypothesis definitively.
Investigation and Police Response
The Guanajuato Prosecutor's Office is analyzing surveillance footage to clarify the attack, while the Municipal Police, National Guard, and Army launched a search operation in the area. No suspects have been detained yet. AIC agents and experts collected ballistic evidence, while the Forensic Medical Service removed the bodies. Cruz Galindo highlighted that the municipal corporation handed over all information to the Public Prosecutor's Office to strengthen the investigation.
Context of Violence in Guanajuato
This incident adds to the violence recorded in the state, where on January 25th, a commando from the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel opened fire during a sports event in Loma de Flores, leaving 11 dead and 12 injured. Authorities attributed that attack to the criminal organization, which led to the arrest of its leader and two other implicated individuals. The Prosecutor's Office now links the Las Malvas shooting to the presence of criminal gangs in the region.
